St Xavier University Women's Softball Head Coach, Myra Minuskin is in her 13th year as head coach of the Saint Xavier University softball team. Her 12-year record is an impressive 434-210 overall (.674 winning percentage). The 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2009 CCAC Coach of the Year and NAIA Region VII Coach of the Year honors in 2001, 2002 and 2004 shared her knowledge as she ran two practices for the 16U Sizzlers. Minuskin is a returning “Friend of the Sizzlers”, as she trained the 2012 14U Sizzlers in January of 2012 . Joining Coach Minuskin was Erin Mollohan who joined the staff in the fall of 2012 in preparation for the 2013 season. Prior to coming to SXU, she was a volunteer assistant coach at Drake University in Iowa. The Tinley Park, Ill., native was a four-year starter for the Drake Bulldogs and twice earned Co-SIDA Capital One Academic All-District VII honors (2011 & 2010). During her junior year in 2010, Mollohan set Drake’s single season doubles record with 18 and also named to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Second Team. Freshly out of College, Mollohan brought advice and answered questions from a captivated group of Sizzler Players.
In the teams first OVERNIGHT outing, the 16U TS Sizzlers competed aggressively in Pekin, this January. The team eventually suffered a tough loss of 2 to 1 to eventual 2nd Place finisher Calcedonia, Michigan. A debatable "out" call at home on Anna may have been the difference. The highlights of the weekend were the tough 7 inning pitching effort by Elizabeth in the 2 to 1 loss and the Grand Slam Homerun, over the Centerfield Fence by Kayla in a 6-4 victory over the weekend.
Hmmm.... Those Umpires Look Familiar!
With a depleted roster and an assist from players from the other 16U Sizzler team, the 16U-TS team played a round robin with the Plainfield Force and Will County Crushers Saturday night at the Quarry.
Coaches Tony and Dan did a great job umpiring for the games (and really looked the part), although they could have given the Sizzlers a favorable call here or there!!!
The 14U Sizzlers came out strong in Schaumburg by winning their first bracket play game, but came up short in game 2. Chrissy led the hitting attack with 2 monster home runs and a double.
